Winners of UK car of the year announced

The annual WhatCar? Awards ceremony has named the BMW diesel 5-series the Car of the Year. It was also named the Luxury Car of the Year, beating the Mercedes S-class and the Rolls Royce Ghost.

The BMW 5 series is a sharp mid-sized luxury car manufactured by the German automaker BMW. It stands in a class of its own with its power and economical twin-power turbo engines in petrol or diesel. It fought strong opposition from Jaguar, Mercedes and Audi with its comfortable, efficient and practical good looks. The BMW badge has been used for the last 40 years and carries a reputation of prestige and excellence. The judges praised its handling, refinement and handling, all for the price of £33,000.

The Volkswagen group had a very successful night, winning 10 out of the 18 awards. These include VW, Porsche, Audi, Seat and Skoda. The Volkswagen Touran took the MPV award, which was previously won by Citroen. Skoda won three awards: Best Small Car for the Fabia, Best Large SUV for the Kodiaq and Best Estate Car for the Superb. Audi won the family car category with the A3 sportback, Luxury SUV with the A7, Best Coupe with the TT and Executive Car with the A4. The Seat Ateca won for small SUVs, and the Porsche 718 Cayman won the Sports Car award.

Renault picked up two awards, with the Zoe winning the electric category and the 3008 i-Cockpit picking up the Technology Award. The award for the best convertible was given to the Mazda MX-5. Toyota Prius won the Safety Award, while the Hyundai i10 won the Best City Car. Finally, the Ford Fiesta ST was voted Best Hot Hatch.
