Golf breaks in the Winter: What to expect and what you should pack

A winter golf break can be great value – less crowded tee sheets, a slower pace, and all that bracing fresh air you don’t get in summer. Pack for UK conditions and know what to expect.

Winter brings the chance for a unique experience on most tee times. For a Golf Hotel Cotswolds, consider tewkesburypark.co.uk/golf/

There is something different in the air at winter golf tournaments. You might find:

Less daylight, which means earlier tee times

Miss some days if the temperature is too low or inclement weather strikes

Winds that can completely change the feel of a course

The players are becoming inhabitants of a nice, warm clubhouse with good food!

If the frost has been bad, this might cause play to be delayed, so make sure you have a later start possible with your day.

Staying warm and dry is key. How to pack:

Layer up with waterproofs, not big jumpers

Decent waterproofs, a jacket, and separate trousers that are not just showerproof but waterproof

Thermal base layers and a mid-layer fleece or gilet

It’s worth investing in winter golf gloves – or two pairs so you always have one drying out

A decent woolly hat and snood

Waterproof shoes and spare socks

Umbrella and towel for wiping grips and clubs

Cheap hand warmers (small, cheap, and surprisingly useful)

Dry shoes, casual layers, and a change of outfit for the hotel are also required. It is much easier to enjoy winter golf when you know that a warm environment awaits on the other side!
