Fast and furious 8 movie review

The love or hate, the Fast and Furious franchise has been able to maintain for 16 years in the public’s taste, even increasing its fan base as films. And not only that, Universal Pictures has been able to perfectly combine, like no other franchise, exorbitant budgets with stars of the likes of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, and even knew how to deal tactfully the death of its protagonist, Paul Walker. As a good car, those responsible around the saga give maintenance on each tape and the engine continues non-stop.

For this eighth chapter, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Dominic (Vin Diesel) are on their honeymoon in Cuba, there our pilot of the classic 1970 Dodge Charger will encounter the hacker Cipher (Charlize Theron) who will convince him quickly to join to his side and betray his family. Beyond that, the little sub plots of history are merely a pretext to put the brain in neutral and let go by the roar of the engines.

The chemistry and the commitment between the protagonists is part of what has made Fast and Furious in a franchise envied by all the studies of the competition, and is that he simply enjoys the jokes between Tej (Ludacris) and Roman (Tyrese Gibson ), Along with a new love-hate bromance between Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham . Of course, there is also the involuntary humor on the part of Vin Diesel, who takes his dramatic moments very seriously and presents scenes that are the envy of any acting student of the first semester.

Ten years ago we had one of the best sequences of a car chase that New York City has experienced with Bourne: The Ultimatum, and as Manhattan is one of the most crowded cities on the planet, seeing on screen what made the production of Fast and Furious 8 is simply spectacular. It may not be as cleanly executed (or sitting in reality) as Matt Damon’s tape, but the budget is seen in every shot.

And it is this point – the universe where the stories of Rapids and Furious are developed -, which may not be for everyone. That is, we are in a reality where cars defy the laws of gravity; Where the suspension of cars launched from an airplane does not suffer any damage; where there is the longest airstrip ever built by man, and a universe where Dwayne Johnson can break the plaster of his arm practically with just wanting it. But this is the world of a saga that continues to grow and continues to entertain its fans. There is not much logic, there is a great development of characters or complex plots, but it is simply and purely pure entertainment. Sure, it’s an entertainment cost $ 250 million dollars, but that’s a figure that will certainly recover in its first weekend.

Fast and Furious 8 manages to hold on despite the loss of Paul Walker and although perhaps the production tried to compensate the character of “white boy” with Scott Eastwood, the truth is that the director’s son does the best he can with a basic role “forgettable”. Charlize Theron achieves a solid villain that we hope to see in future deliveries although, ironically, we see very little to “Furious” in the car. And to the surprise of many, Jason Statham steals the film with a scene that (although not entirely based on the Lesley’s of physics or reality), is incredibly fun and bad-ass.

Do you perceive a fatigue in the franchise? No. Maybe if this were the last tape of Fast and Furious we would be satisfied with a story that closes, that does not leave loose ends and that has other seven deliveries of “Adventures of the Toretto family” to entertain us. However, we know that will not be so pretexts to get on the Dodge Charger and squeeze the accelerator, there will always be.
