Unfortunately, injuries are a common problem amongst runners. If you’ve suffered a fracture and done the work to heal, you may be ready to start hitting the pavement again. However, it’s not as easy as just picking up right where you left off. Here are a few important things to know before you try your first run.

Progress Slowly

You likely won’t be able to pick up where you left off before the injury. For your first run, be sure to start off slowly. You will probably need to walk some, and that’s totally fine. You’ll get to where you used to be eventually, but if you try to take it too quickly, you may end up hurting yourself again. You can go a little further and faster with each run, but always stop if you start hurting.

Listen to Your Body
